Phenote
Phenote is a software tool for annotating biological phenotypes using OBO-format ontologies. It features a type-ahead suggestion tool providing quick access to ontology terms, their synonyms and definitions, and relevant term details. Additionally, users can navigate through any OBO-ontology to find and select their appropriate terms.
Phenote is also a software toolkit containing pluggable components for websites and other java-based standalone applications.
Phenote specifically supports the work being done by two of our Driving Biological Projects (DBPs), The Zebrafish Information Network, located at the University of Oregon, and the Flybase, located at the University of Cambridge. Both groups are using Phenote to record model organism genotypes with their corresponding phenotype characteristics. University of Oregon is using Phenote to relate Zebrafish phenotypes to human disease genes. University of Cambridge is linking mutations in Drosophila to human disease.
